Notes

  • The shadow ratio only fixes the sun's elevation. That gives a ring of possible places, not a point. Measure several photos taken at different times and the rings intersect.
  • Pixel lengths assume the object is vertical, the ground is level, and both lines are roughly the same distance from the camera. For better results, measure the real lengths on site and type them in.
  • Built on ideas from Bellingcat's ShadowFinder and SunCalc. Photos never leave your browser. Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap, Esri and OpenTopoMap.
